Education Law

Several years ago, my oldest child was diagnosed with a learning disability. My wife and I started learning about his disability and about the law that governs what our public schools are responsible to provide to support children and help them learn. My study and experience advocating for my son in this area of the law has developed into a significant practice area for my firm. Friends and acquaintances, including other lawyers, have trusted me to provide information and services for their children and other children they know.

We have assisted children facing a great number of challenges including: ADD, ADHD, Anorexia Nervosa, Asperger’s, Auditory Processing Disorder, Autism, Bi-Polar Disorder, Bulimia, Dysgraphia, Dyslexia, Mental Retardation, Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, Schizophrenia; Tourette’s Syndrome, Suicidal Tendencies; Traumatic Brain Injury.

As this site is developed, I will post information for parents and children to assist them in facing such issues as determining whether a student is eligible for special education services, designing an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), the need for assistive technology, Due Process Hearings before the State Board of Education, obtaining school records and information, Manifestation Determinations, Mediation before the State Board of Education, placements in private schools and other out-of-district placements, remediation, summer programs, and school discipline, such as suspensions and expulsions.

SCHOOL DISCIPLINE MATTERS - In the area of school discipline, we have assisted students with special needs and others who are not learning challenged.  We have presented cases to local Boards of Education and aided families by representing children charged with criminal activity in Juvenile Court.
